Chevrolet sold 3 lakh units of cars in India

Chevrolet, a brand name of General Motors India, has sold over 3 lakh cars in India since it's debut in the country in the year 2003. The Chevrolet brand vehicles include Beat, Spark, Cruze, Aveo, Tavera and Captiva. GM India recorded highest ever monthly sales of 11,330 units in March 2010, Chevrolet Beat and Chevrolet Spark (both small cars) contributed a major part of its sales, according to a statement released by the company.

GMI Vice-President P Balendran said,"It gives us immense pleasure to see such overwhelming response to the Chevrolet brand that continues to register record sales month after month consistently."



In 1994, General Motors allied with Hindustan Motors which was a 50:50 JV and it was completely taken over by the parent firm in 1999. Another joint venture took place in December 2009 between General Motors and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC)- its Chinese partner. The company had invested aggressively on its Halol facility in Gujarat to produce light commercial vehicles from SAIC's stable.

Hindustan Motors ties-up with SBI

Hindustan Motors Limited (HML), a C K Birla Group owned company, entered into a tie-up with the leading public sector lender State Bank of India (SBI) to provide retail finance for the company's passenger cars and commercial vehicles in India. According to company, SBI will provide finances to individual buyers of HML's new 2.3-tonne mini truck, HM-Shifeng Winner, and the Ambassador car.



State Bank of India, which is the largest PSU bank in the country, has tie-ups with a series of major car makers in India and offers auto loans at low interest rates at total transparency. The State Bank of India has a large number of branches spread across India and located even in remote areas. The bank offers auto loan on new or old cars and Utility vehicles.

Hindustan Motors plans to double the capacity of TN plant

Hindustan Motor, country's oldest and the most reputed car maker revealed its plans to expand the production capacity of its manufacturing unit at Thiruvallur by the year 2012. The officials from the company said that although the plant has a capacity of 12,000 units, it presently produces only 5000 units. The company is expecting the production to grow double by next year. The target of the company is to reach a production capacity of 24,000 units by the year 2012, Hindustan Motors India Executive-Vice President Y V S Vijay Kumar said.



Apart from the plant at Thiruvallur, the company also has a manufacturing unit at Uttarpara in West Bengal. Hindustan Motors has an impressive portfolio in India including sedans, SUV's and various other segment cars. Lancer-Cedia, Outlander, Pajero and Montero are amongst the premium sedans that are sold in India with the collaboration of Japanese automaker Mitsubishi.

Both the plants of the company are live and working with distributed production portfolios. The Uttarpara unit manufacturers Ambassador and multi-utility vehicles like Trekker, Porter and Pushpak. On the other hand the Thiruvallur plant produces Cedia, Outlander, Pajero and Montero.

Although the exact investment that would be put in for doubling the production is not revealed, but Mr. Kumar mentioned that a minimal amount would be invested. Initially the Thiruvallur plant was established to manufacture earth moving equipment. It was three decades ago in 1998 that the unit started to manufacture cars as well.

Hindustan Motors is going to launch the premium luxury sedan Mitsubishi Evolution 'EVOX' in August this year. The officials from the company were elated at the development and said that that car would be a very high performance four seater sedan delivering 300 BHP.
