Autosport's Car of the Year For Ginetta G50

Lawrence Tomlinson bought historic British car maker Ginetta in 2005, and in just three years his team has hit it over the wall with the maker's first car under his tenure: the Ginetta G50, has taken Autosport's number one slot in its Top 10 Cars of the Year.


The G50's attractions are obvious: It is light (1,750 lbs), powerful (300 horsepower six-cylinder), and relatively inexpensive (£35,000-or around $51,000 USD). It comes in three flavors for now: Roadgoing coupe, G50 Cup Car, and a GT4 model for the FIA GT4 series.


The Cup Car had its own one-make race series in Britain, and that was so successful it also won an award in Motorsport News. Coming in 2009 for Ginetta: a G50Z for GT3 competition, an electric Ginetta G50, and expansion onto the Continent with a one-make series in Spain fielding the Ginetta G20.

About to Be Presented, Lotus Eagle Is Caught at the Ring

This image will probably be stuck in Lotus fans’ memories, since it has already appeared so many times and Lotus engineers do not seem to have a great deal of imagination in order to camouflage the new Eagle. All the times it has been spotted it was using exactly the same covers. The big news about this scoop is that it was in Nürburgring, what confirms the idea that this Lotus, as most of the others, will offer superb handling and its presentation date, in July, at the British Motor Show, is getting closer.

While Opel has unveiled the first official pictures of the new Insignia well before its presentation, also at the British Motor Show, it is very likely Lotus will save the best for last। Although the final appearance of the car may take a while to be known, we are already well informed about the mechanics: just like the Elise, the Eagle will have a Toyota poweplant, but bigger. The mid-mounted engine to power the new car will be a 3.5-litre V6, elected one of the 10 best engines of the world by Ward's AutoWorld magazine, and possibly stronger than the 306 bhp stock version. Anyway, what we are really willing to show you is if Lotus has managed to combine its engineering expertise to a great looking car. Stay tuned!

Land Rover Discovery 3

Scheduled to make its public debut at the British International Motor this July, the Land Rover Discovery Series 3 (aka LR3 in the U.S.) has received a modest facelift. Including the restyled front and rear bumpers, the wheel arches and two piece tailgate receive body colour finish. The door handles and new fender side vent also get a new color with “tungsten” metal gray. Completing the exterior changes, new 19-inch 7-spoke wheels are available in three new exterior metallic paint colours, Santorini Black, Galway Green and Bournville (black with a hint of brown). The interior receives an updated Bluetooth system plus a new “almond” trim colour. Priced from £29,950 the Discovery 3 facelift for 2009 goes on sale in the UK in August.
